A password-protected directory is a folder that cannot be accessed unless the correct login credentials are provided. This may be a whole Internet site or only a single page which is located within a subfolder. If you try to open such a directory, you will see an Internet browser pop-up in which you must type a username and a password. If you type in the right ones, you will be able to continue exploring the content without needing to do anything more. In case the login details are not right, however, you shall see a note that you are not authorized to see the content. When this function is activated, you will not be able to open a file even when you have a direct link. The option is incredibly useful if you need to limit the access to some content or if you are developing a site and you do not want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.
Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take merely a few clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites in a shared hosting
account with us. You won't need to do anything challenging - you will have to pick a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it must be protected, and then to input the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals require their own login details, there will not be a problem to make several different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this feature is activated. If you would like to turn off the security function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same exact section of the CP in which you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server
account with us, you shall be able to protect any content you have uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is a part of, so you'll not have to enter any code at any time. You will only need to select one of the domains/subdomains which you have inside the web hosting account and to select which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. Then you can type in the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be all set. The protection shall be activated at once, so anyone that tries to access the newly protected folder will have to type in the correct login information. In case several people have to be able to open the exact same content, you can create a separate username for each of them.
